Back to opportunities
Are you a lawyer who is a natural connector and energized by building relationships with clients and colleagues far more than the day-to-day practice of law? Is your non-billable work your favorite part of your job? Would you love to leave the practice of law while still benefiting from your legal experience and the professional relationships you have spent your career building? Then keep reading. Latitude is considering experienced attorney-candidates for a six-figure job (with a pathway to executive-level compensation) that is all about connecting and servicing clients without actually practicing law or billing time.

Would you enjoy:
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with your professional peers in Nashville (and nationwide);
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to law firm partners, in-house counsel and legal operations professionals;
  • Working as part of collaborative team;
  • Brainstorming, problem-solving and dealmaking;
  • Helping to improve the quality of life of attorneys; and
  • Being rewarded based on your individual contributions and the financial performance of your team (vs. billable hours)?
If so, this client relationship position may be for you.

Latitude, a fast-growing high-end legal services company with offices in ten major cities coast to coast and employees in all 50 states, is seeking a Nashville attorney who is (or has been) an associate or partner in a corporate law firm and/or in-house counsel for a mid-market to large corporation to serve as Director of Business Development & Client Services in Latitude’s Nashville office. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, highly driven, likable, and well-respected Nashville attorney to leave the practice of law without leaving the legal industry.

This position requires working closely with clients to learn about their needs, working with Latitude colleagues to present creative solutions to those client needs, negotiating deal terms, and staying in touch with the client to ensure the client’s complete satisfaction. This position requires a high degree of responsiveness, attention to detail and a bias towards action. While this position is likely very enjoyable for those who enjoy spending time with attorneys and being active in the legal community, it requires a high degree of individual initiative and resilience (grit), and the ability to build relationships of trust with a wide variety of personalities.

This is a full-time role. While this is largely a work-from-home position, it requires the ability to meet in person with clients in the Nashville area (and occasionally outside of Nashville), such as meetings in client offices, client lunches and coffees. Active involvement in the legal community and professional organizations is helpful in this role.

As further background, Latitude directly employs and provides attorneys, legal operations professionals, compliance officers, and paralegals to legal departments and law firms nationwide. Our specialty is providing our law firm and legal department clients with practice-specific contract attorneys who have served as associates, counsel, and partners in Am Law firms and/or as in-house counsel in large corporate legal departments. We also assist many of our clients with permanent positions, including general counsel searches. Our clients range from Fortune Global 500 companies and Global 100 law firms to high-growth privately-held companies, major non-profits, government entities, and boutique law firms. Every member of Latitude's client services and recruiting teams have practiced law in-house or in law firms that serve corporate clients, and have strong community ties, practice experience and professional relationships in their respective markets. Our mission is to be the preeminent high-end flexible legal talent company in the World.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a Latitude brand ambassador and client relations leader in Nashville and throughout TN
  • Serve as the primary relationship partner for a portfolio of Latitude clients
  • Develop new business and build client relationships
  • Become the go-to person in Nashville and Tennessee for legal departments and law firms who need peer-level contract attorneys
Requirements:
  • Prior experience as a successful corporate law firm associate, partner or legal department in-house counsel
  • Sterling reputation in the Nashville bar and community
  • Prior experience developing new business or cultivating tight relationships with existing clients; proven aptitude and drive may substitute for this experience if candidate has not previously been in a position to develop new business (e.g. BigLaw associate)
  • While this is a full-time position which offers flexibility and the ability to work from a home office (WFH), you must reside in the Greater Nashville area.
  • Prior AmLaw 200 Law Firm and/or large corporate legal department experience is highly preferred
  • Prior active involvement or leadership in Nashville-area professional and/or civic organizations is preferred but not required
  • High degree of individual initiative and discipline, responsiveness, attention to detail, organization, grit and social intelligence required
  • JD degree (no active law license required)
  • Outstanding references
Timing:
While this is an immediate opening, we are looking for the right person and can be somewhat flexible so that you are able to exit your current role when it makes the most sense.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Six-figure base salary (i.e. $100,000+)
  • Unlimited Bonus Potential (based upon individual and team performance); no billable hours required
  • Full benefits, including complimentary Group Life, Long Term Disability and AD&D; Group Medical, Dental & Vision; Qualified 401k; and CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
