Government Agency Insurance Attorney (Hybrid / Full-Time Permanent)

Are you an insurance attorney with government agency experience? Do you want to work standard 9-5 hours with flexible work-from-home opportunities? Keep reading! Latitude is seeking an insurance attorney with at least 7 years of experience working in government to join a D.C.-based government agency. Knowledge of insurance regulatory language and a familiarity with administrative law is preferred. Successful candidates must have a strong understanding of risk assessment and how it relates to the insurance industry. Excellent academic credentials and written and oral communication skills are a must. Candidates must be licensed and in good standing in the District of Columbia. This is a hybrid position with flexible WFH opportunities near Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities for the Government Agency Insurance Attorney:
  • Provide legal advice relating to the interpretation and applicability of all insurance laws, rules and regulations administered by the agency
  • Provide legal advice and representation in complex insurance matters, including liquidations and rehabilitations, mergers and acquisitions, and matters involving unauthorized entities
  • Represent the agency in insurance cases involving violations of insurance laws before the Hearing Officer and the Office of Administrative Hearings
  • Prepare evidence briefs, briefs, motions and other documents to support cases as necessary
  • Review and revise directives and correspondence and other legal documents related to policy implementation and enforcement actions
  • Provide legal and interpretive advice related to all insurance companies and other licensed entities doing business in the District of Columbia
  • Complete research on complex, critical substantive matters in response to requests from the Mayor, Deputy Major(s) and agency heads
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to junior attorneys of the division/section in areas of special expertise
  • Handle urgent and sensitive advisory and confidential matters for the agency
Requirements for the Government Agency Insurance Attorney:
  • 7 years of experience in the insurance industry; knowledge of regulatory language and familiarity with administrative law is preferred
  • Must understand risk assessment
  • Licensed to practice and in good standing in the District of Columbia
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional setting
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Compensation
  • Pay: The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $190,000 or more. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, and location.
  • Benefits: In addition to pay, a competitive benefits package is also provided, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; 401(k) and generous leave policies.
