Job Overview:

We are seeking a proactive, experienced, and detail-oriented Tax Litigator to assist our client for an upcoming trial. This remote role is ideal for an attorney with a background in tax litigation, especially those with prior experience at the U.S. Department of Justice (Tax Division) and/or the Internal Revenue Service (Office of Chief Counsel). The successful candidate will manage and execute complex federal tax litigation matters, including representation before the IRS and in federal courts, ensuring exceptional client service and legal precision. The ideal candidate has strong litigation and trial experience, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of federal tax law and administrative procedure.

Job Basics:

  • Engagement- 4 to 5 months, with possibility to exend
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist trial team in preparation for upcoming trials.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, experts, and co-counsel.
  • Provide legal research and guidance on complex tax issues and procedural matters.
  • Collaborate with vendor teams and litigation support professionals, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school
  • Licensure: Must be licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of federal tax litigation experience, including trial-level responsibilities. Prior employment at the U.S. Department of Justice (Tax Division) and/or the IRS (Chief Counsel or Appeals) is strongly preferred. Strong experience managing complex legal matters, including independent case handling and trial experience.
  • Skills & Competencies: Deep understanding of the Internal Revenue Code, procedural rules, and administrative practice. Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Ability to manage multiple active litigation matters simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with clients and opposing counsel. High attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong analytical skills.
Compensation:

Pay: The annualized pay for this position ranges from $150,000 to $250,000, or more depending on seniority and experience. Final compensation is based on several factors including work experience, qualifications, and credentials.
