Latitude is seeking a Probate & Trust Litigation Associate to join a premier, mid-size California-based law firm in its San Diego office on a full-time, permanent basis. With offices throughout the state, the firm is known for its deep experience in fiduciary litigation, estate disputes, and private wealth matters. The practice group regularly handles complex, sensitive cases on behalf of high-net-worth individuals, trustees, charitable fiduciaries, and closely held business interests.

This is a unique opportunity for an early-career associate to work alongside senior partners and associates on sophisticated probate and trust disputes involving contested estates, breach of fiduciary duty claims, will and trust contests, and related civil litigation. The role offers a high level of client interaction and hands-on responsibility within a highly regarded practice group. It offers the sophistication and resources of Big Law, paired with the agility, collaboration, and accessibility of a boutique platform.  This is a hybrid position (3 days per week in-office).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Case Development: Support all phases of probate and trust matters, including client intake, investigation, discovery, motion practice, and hearings.
  • Drafting & Strategy: Draft petitions, objections, motions, settlement documents, and related filings
  • Court Appearances: Attend and take active role at hearings in probate and civil court, with increasing responsibility and autonomy over time.
  • Client Communications: Maintain clear, responsive, and thoughtful communication with clients, many of whom are navigating sensitive family or fiduciary conflicts.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with partners, associates, paralegals, and subject-matter experts (e.g., tax, corporate) on strategy, risk management, and business planning.
  • Practice Development: Contribute to building the firm’s probate and trust litigation practice by contributing to content, presentations, and targeted outreach efforts.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • 2+ years of litigation experience, preferably in probate, trust, or estate-related matters.
  • Experience in all aspects of pre-trial litigation, including motion practice, discovery, and court appearances in civil or probate settings.
  • Strong writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Proactive, collaborative mindset with the confidence to take initiative and drive matters forward.
  • California Bar admission required.
  • Excellent academic background.

Compensation:
  • Pay: The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $215,000, plus applicable bonuses. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials.
  • Benefits: In addition to pay, a competitive benefits package is also provided, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; 401(k) and generous leave policies.
