NASHVILLE, TN (February 19, 2020) – Nashville, Tennessee-based Latitude announced that it has launched Latitude Miami, the second new market the company has expanded into in 2020 after its January launch in Indianapolis. The company’s local executives are all former large law firm partners or senior in-house counsel with deep ties to their respective cities and legal markets. Latitude’s specialty is providing peer-level attorneys with large law firm experience to their corporate law firm and legal department clients on short- and long-term engagements.
Latitude’s associate- and partner-level attorneys add capacity to corporate in-house teams during major business events, periods of peak demand, and when an immediate new hire is not possible, which helps clients control costs and reduce work overload. Latitude also helps law firms meet surges in client demand, remain nimble, reduce burnout, and minimize fixed costs. Latitude engagements typically range from a few months to a few years.
“Latitude’s growth is driven by the peer-level attorneys we provide to our law firm and corporate clients. Clients choose Latitude when they need to expand capacity, such as during surges in workload, and don’t want to roll the dice on attorney quality” said Andres (“Andy”) Chagui, President of Latitude Miami. “I am excited to lead Latitude’s expansion into South Florida and look forward to providing sophisticated attorneys a new way to practice with leading law firms and companies in our area.”
Immediately prior to joining Latitude, Chagui was a Shareholder (partner) at AmLaw 200 law firm (270+ attorneys) Carlton Fields, where he represented major financial services companies in complex federal and state court litigation throughout the United States during his nearly 15 years of private practice. A native Miamian, Chagui has strong ties in the local legal community both at corporate legal departments and at law firms throughout South Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and his law degree from University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
Latitude was launched in 2014 by attorney Ross Booher and corporate executive Ken Clarke. As a partner in a large law firm, Booher observed first-hand the challenges law firm partners and in-house counsel face to reduce fixed costs, while also maintaining the right-sized teams given the unpredictable nature of law practice.
“I realized that corporate legal departments and law firms have a real need for high-end associate- to partner-level attorneys on a fluctuating basis,” said Booher. “I also wanted to create an alternative, sustainable career track for successful attorneys with sophisticated experience – one that offers interesting work, great clients, full benefits, high pay and flexibility.”
Over the past six years, Latitude has served clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies and large corporate law firms, to fast-growing start-up companies and boutique law firms. Latitude attorneys and paralegals serve clients both on-site and remotely in a variety of practice areas, including ERISA, litigation, environmental, IP, healthcare, and corporate & securities. When serving in law firms, Latitude attorneys function in associate-, counsel- and partner-level roles. When serving in corporate legal departments, Latitude attorneys work in in-house counsel roles.
“We are thrilled to partner with Andy to bring our high-end legal services to South Florida. Andy has practiced at the highest level in Miami’s thriving legal market and understands the unique culture of companies and law firms in South Florida, which will enable him and his team to create solutions for Latitude’s clients and attorneys in the area,” said Booher.
“Our fabulous attorneys distinguish us from other legal services companies. Almost all Latitude attorneys were previously associates or partners at leading corporate law firms and most also served as in-house counsel,” said Latitude EVP Candice Reed, who herself has BigLaw and in-house corporate counsel experience. Latitude attracts top-tier attorney talent by providing high pay, full benefits and a high degree of flexibility and autonomy. “Experienced attorneys and paralegals want to work with us because we allow them to cultivate a sophisticated law practice with flexibility and boundaries that support their priorities in and outside the office,” explained Reed.
